Film Analysis How Tarantino s Screenplays Are A Nice...

This essay will be covering Quentin Tarantino an American director, writer, and actor. His films are characterized by non-chronological storylines, satirical subject matter, and violence. Tarantino is not only a fantastic writer but a tremendous filmmaker. He has won multiple Oscars for his films. The man to me is a genius in the film industry. Throughout this essay, I will speak of what makes a Tarantino movie, how Tarantino s Screenplays are a nice change of pace, how he changed how I view dialogue, his well thought out characters, amazing writing, and his use of other films as inspiration. No two Tarantino films are the same but they do all serve one sole purpose, to entertain. Now any Tarantino film does indeed have similar devices†¦show more content†¦Don’t forget about the crazy amount of horror films made for cheap that are carried out horrifically bad. There are still well carried out original films (very few of them). But these films that are well edited, well shot with amazing acting, and most importantly well written. Can be overrun by generic movies that everyone wants to see. These generic films do better at the box office because people don’t want to step out the norm. This is why Tarantino is such a change of pace while still delivering to his audience what they want. He understands that he is creating films for a specific audience. Unlike most movies that are trying to remain relevant. He doesn’t try to please everyone. Tarantino said it best himself, â€Å"I want to top expectations. I want to blow you away.† You are i n for a show, not some brain-dead film that you don’t have to pay attention to the plot. He creates original content, the actual art which changes the ballgame or in other words the film game. Tarantino’s writing has changed the way I view movies and read books. In every scene, he creates an almost palpable feeling of emotions through the way he conveys emotion not only through the silver screen but through the pages of a script. In Tarantino’s films, the dialogue is theatrical and profane with the characters he creates. He is not afraid to create characters that are completely against the majority of everyone’s morals. The way his

Comparative Analysis Of Epiphany, From James Joyce s...

Joey Gill ENG-L 204 Paper 1, Prompt D A Comparative Analysis of Epiphany, from James Joyce’s â€Å"Araby† and â€Å"The Dead† James Joyce elaborately portrays the complexity of the human male psyche through his protagonists in â€Å"Araby† and â€Å"The Dead.† Through the use of first person perspective, each protagonists’ true motivations and perceptions of reality are betrayed by Joyce, therefore allowing the reader to fully understand the fallacies and complexities within each character. Through the depictions of such complexities, Joyce is able to leverage the subtle, yet substantial, power of epiphany in order to unite every aspect of each protagonist’s complex nature, as well as display what he means to suggest through the epiphanies his protagonists experience. Beyond sharing the same author, the unnamed protagonist in â€Å"Araby†, who’ll hence be referred to as the young boy, shares similarities with the protagonist in â€Å"The Dead†, Gabriel . Initially, both characters are seen as male figures who adhere to the social etiquette of their economic class, and both are conflicted by their female interests. The young boy’s sole desire in â€Å"Araby† is to win the affection of a young lady, known only as Mangan’s sister. Similarly, after Gabriel and his wife, Gretta, attend an annual dinner party, Gabriel is overcome with an incessant desire to be intimate with Gretta. Both of their efforts to submit the woman to their desires inevitably fail due to both protagonists having a perceived understanding

Toyota automobiles were established in the year 1933 as the division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, which was centrally focussed on the production of automobiles under the direction of Kiichiro Toyoda. Toyota presently operates through dealership sales channel. It is primarily focussed on the production and selling of luxury sedan such as Toyota corona, Toyopet Toyo Ace truck. Toyota Dyna, Toyota Coaster, Toyota corolla are some of the major products, which are produced by Toyota. The executive management of Toyota comprises of Christian Ruben, Ivo Ljubica who are the directors of the company. The board of directors of Toyota allocates accounts based on the location of the registered offices of its relevant offices and groups. Vision and Mission: The mission of Toyota is to provide safe journey to its customers. Toyota is focused on developing new technologies with the intention of saving energy and diversifying the energy sources. Toyota is working with the vision of creating a prosperous society and clean environment by promoting the production of battery cars (Cusumano 2013). Value chain analysis of Toyota: Value chain analysis can be defined as the analytical theory, which helps in identifying the business operation by creating value and competitive advantage for the firm. Inbound logistics of Toyota consist of two separate activities first being the transport of parts from the local suppliers to the manufacturing unit and the second part consist of international inbound logistics to ship its parts from Japan to North America and European plant. Localization of the production is one of the central strategy undertaken by Toyota and 75.4% of the non-domestic sales were produced outside the territories of Japan for the calendar of 2015 (Backer and Miroudot 2014). In addition to this, Toyota has perfectly crafted Just-In-Time systems of manufacturing in order to eliminate the need for inventory which helps in saving considerable amount of cost. Operations: Toyota automotive operations support the promotion of conscientious manufacturing throughout its operational functions. On the other hand, lean manufacturing technology helps in promoting competitive advantage. Figure 1: representing Toyota assembly plant (Source Kilger et al. 2015) Outbound logistics: Approximately Toyota has more than 175 distributors and 8900 dealers outside the territory of Japan. The company employs carriers, railroads and trucks to transmit its vehicles from the manufacturing plant to the dealers. Toyota employs numerous distribution strategies in US, Europe and Japan (Diabat et al. 2013). Distribution of vehicles produced in North America: Once out of plant vehicles are shipped into the marshalling yard where it is prepared for transportation to its distributors and dealers. Distribution of vehicles produced overseas: Large number of vehicles produced in Japan are transported in North America and are further transported to dealerships. However, Toyota value chain represents that the delivery time should vary from three weeks to five weeks to those ports where dealers are located close to its manufacturing unit (Christopher 2016). Marketing and sales: Toyota puts more of its focus on innovating product and promoting efficiency of brand through brand integration practices. Toyota marketing strategy makes the use of print and media advertising to promote sales. It also focuses on public relations and direct marketing techniques with the help of television advertising for effective marketing and sales. Services: Toyota operates according to the value of serving its customers first. This principle is reflected in all the business processes and operational procedures in company (Backer and Miroudot 2014). Figure 2: Diagrammatic representation of Toyotas value chain (Source Backer and Miroudot 2014) Planning process of Toyota: Toyota has adopted intensive business strategy in order to succeed on selected market to develop its business. Toyota adopts the strategy of continuous improvement in order to create an impact on the level of quality product. Toyota adopts an integrating strategy of cross-functional business through gradual improvement and continuous business activities. Product strategy: The product strategy of Toyota is based on rendering high quality fuel efficient cars through the employment of innovating technologies through intensive hard work and creativity (Kumar 2015). Research and development: Toyota is considered as one of the leader of automobiles industries through advanced research and development technology. Business strategies adopted by Toyota is aimed at developing intelligence responses in order to challenge the automobile industry by presumptuous responsibility for future generations. Designing fuel-efficient engines: Regarding the problems of pollution and emission Toyota intensively makes the use of technology to design its car engines which are less polluting. It is committed towards developing hybrid car engines by undertaking the combination of different source of power units. Toyota designs its engines, which are technologically more advanced which helps in achieving the business mission of green machine. Brand Positioning of Toyota: Toyota develops a strategy of product positioning strategy to influence their positioning in the automobile market. For example, Toyota and Lexus are other competing automobile brand that has different positioning strategies. A Toyota Camry and Lexus IS may be comparable in terms of shape and size but the two models is designed and marketed intensively to reach two different groups of consumer. Toyota positions its product by formulating positioning strategy by appealing its targeted groups of customers. Toyota has the better understanding of its competitors such as Nissan, Lexus etc by identifying their unique selling point, which helps in determining the differences in their product (Simons 2013). Hence, Toyota uses low cost strategy by focussing more on the superior designing and quality, which helps in differentiating its product from its competitors. Manufacturing budgets of Toyota: Manufacturing budgets of Toyota potentially consists of capital surplus, retained earnings and earnings generated from the current year surplus. In accordance with the going concern approach, a significant part of the regulatory budgets complies with the minimum requirement of Toyota for covering the risk. In addition to this, a budgeted profit is also taken into the consideration under the going concept for determining the manufacturing budgets of Toyota. To comply with the risk requirement Toyota takes into the account only a prudent budgeted profit to promote its sales. Figure 3 representing the budget cost of component in manufacturing of Toyota (Source Rothaermel 2015) Controlling: Monitoring control: Indentifying waste: According to Rothaermel (2015) there is always waste or residual left out whatever be the process of production Toyota believes in improving its technology through better monitoring of manufacturing process. Toyota continuously aims to improve the process through vital tools by bringing out enhanced product or services. Toyota monitors the activities of its organisation by analysing the activities of department that are directly connected with the manufacturing unit. Analysing the waste and discovering the root cause: For each of the waste that is identified Toyota discovers the root cause for such waste. If a machine in production unit constantly breaks down Toyota identifies the real problem by providing adequate training to the operators who do not use the machine properly. Tools implemented to reduce waste: Once Toyota identifies the waste monitoring process in the above stated stages it employs the tools of reducing the waste through using Just-in-time (Simons 2013). In order to minimise the use of stock and resources Toyota only purchases materials and makes effective utilisation of the available resources to help production run smoothly and efficiently. Such strategies reduce the possibilities of poor engine quality in future batches of cars. Implementing balanced scorecard: Attaining productivity in business has always been an important requirement for continuous growth and expansion. Managers and directors of Toyota are under the responsibilities of assuring the success of business operations though using balanced scorecard techniques, which enables them to achieve their goals throughout their production level. According to Okongwu et al. (2015) balanced scorecard can be defined as the strategic management techniques used for communicating and evaluating the mission and strategy of a business firm. Toyota balance scorecard is divided into four categories to measure the performance of the company which are as follows; Financial perspective: The financial prospect of Toyota aims to answer the queries of its shareholders. Financial measures of Toyota emphasises on the profitability related measures as its shareholders verifies the profit level of the investment undertaken by Toyota. Financial measurement covers up the areas of Toyotas return on investment, cash flow, net operating income and growth in earnings. Customers perspective: According to Keyes (2016) this aspects covers up the ability of Toyota to offer quality cars and engine services by attaining the overall satisfaction level of customers. Toyota believes that if the customers are not happy then they might not return. Therefore, customers satisfaction is of critical importance in achieving the companys financial goals defined under financial perspective of the balanced scorecard. Toyota focuses on increasing the customers retention through improved customer relationship by responding to complaints of customers. Internal business process: The internal business perspective of Toyota is based on the internal business results, which lead to financial success and satisfied customers. To recognise its organisational objectives and customers anticipations Toyota identifies the vital business process such as internal business management, which helps the organisation excel in international automobile market (Sainaghi, et al. 2015). Internal business process of Toyota consists of cost of services, cost of conformance, process innovation are some of the vital measures aimed at increasing the level of production capacity. Learning and growth perspective: This perspective of Toyota looks into the employee performance as how they grow and learn within the organisation. Such measures examine the employees level of expertise and knowledge in support of organisational objectives. Managers of Toyota also identify the vision and mission by sustaining the ability of the employers to sustain and improve (Black et al. 2014). Decision-making: International product strategy standardisation: Toyota automobile revealed its plans by stating that it aims to invest $1billion for setting up new plants in Mexico and another $440 million to add up a new manufacturing line in china. The company has revealed its expansion plans in three years by highlighting its strategy, which aims to put high importance in the U.S markets and also aims to take up more measurable step in china (Tjader et al. 2014). Toyota has formed ambitious goals of doubling its sales and production by 2 million cars in the upcoming years. On the other hand, Toyota is considering catching up its rivals in china by making large sum of investment in building an excessive production strategy. Finding and facts: Planning: Toyota has adopted intensive business strategy in order to succeed on selected market to develop its business. The product strategy of Toyota is based on rendering high quality fuel-efficient cars to its customers. Toyota is committed towards developing hybrid car engines by undertaking the combination of different source of power units. Controlling: Toyota believes in improving its technology through better monitoring of manufacturing process. Managers and directors of Toyota are under the responsibilities of assuring the success of business operations though using balanced scorecard techniques (Abdulrahman et al. 2015). Furthermore, Toyota takes into the account only a prudent budgeted profit to promote its sales. Decision-making: The decision-making aspects of Toyota motors are focussed towards expansion of units in other parts of world especially in china and Mexico. Toyota has formed ambitious goals of doubling its sales by building an excessive production strategy. Conclusion: To conclude with this report it is noteworthy to denote that Toyota is currently looking forward to expand its operations by expanding its capital base by attracting more investment in its shares. The main goals associated with Toyota are to achieve the overall performance and make a profit from its operations. Several scholars have suggested that high tech automobile firms like Toyota should standardise their products by improving the performance of the engines by making improved innovation on reducing the fuel consumption. It is suggested that automobiles firms like Toyota should contribute more towards society and communities under which it operates. Toyota should effectively contribute in corporate social responsibility in order benefit the society far beyond the activates of law. It is recommended that high tech automobile companies like Toyota should become more positive towards adding up high intangible worth to its products by introducing high-tech battery operated cars. This will help in reducing the dependence on fuel and will add more value to its brand. Reference list: Abdulrahman, M.D.A., Subramanian, N., Liu, C. and Shu, C., 2015. Organized Sports Benefits Essays - Positive Mental Attitude

Organized Sports Benefits 25 million American children can not be wrong. Even though at least 20 million of these kids will suffer injury by the age of 15, only 10% of the injuries are serious enough to require more than one visit to the doctor. I have been playing baseball as well as other organized sports for almost 15 years; and in my opinion, sports develop friendship and self-esteem. I believe that coaches should take a "how-to" class on what a coach should and should not do. Injuries occur for three main reasons. First, because parents push their children past their natural ability level, thus it causes injury to the over worked body parts. Second, an accident occurs such as a turned ankle or a ball taking a bad bounce and hitting a player. The third, and most common reason, a coach teaches a player the wrong way to perform specific task. For example, when I was 12 years old, my baseball coach taught me the wrong way to throw a curve ball. After repeatedly throwing the wrong way, I tore a ligament in my right elbow. If my coach at that time, would have taken some kind of class, he would have known the proper way to teach the technique. Nevertheless, I feel that sports should greatly benefit a child's self-esteem. Competition also builds self-esteem because children grow both emotionally and physically and sports help to develop a positive view of both themselves and their athletic skills. As long as children feel that they are beneficial to the team, they are developing self-esteem because they see their personal role in the team as important to the whole cause. If a child is not athletically gifted, he can always take up a more non-competitive sport such as jogging or weight-training. This will also build self-esteem because the child can see his improvement and relate to others at the same time (Michelli and Jenkins). As well as building self-esteem, sports can help develop life-long friendships. Children form all different ethnic and religious backgrounds come together to play a game. This makes a good place for children to mingle with others of the same age. This can in turn give each child a sense of belonging and camaraderie between different races. Athletics also allow children to learn about their abilities as compared to other children of the same age. Children learn about talent that otherwise may have gone unnoticed. If I had not been involved in sports from an early age, I may have never discovered the talent that I have in baseball. I loved playing baseball from the first day I stepped on the field. I feel that most every child has a good time being around children of their own age. If not for the fun of playing the game, then for the fun of being around children that are different from them. In conclusion, children have fun while building self-esteem and making new friendships. I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages by far. That is why I believe we should let kids have fun, and learn about themselves while doing it.

Umpqua bank Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Umpqua bank - Essay Example This paper will discuss the culture at Umpqua in relation to Steins theories of organizational culture. The bank as it sat when Davis took over was starting into its midlife. It had grown and was popular but it was also fighting the possibility of a buyout. Their culture of a small town friendly bank was already ingrained and now they needed to move on. As they said, their present culture was stretched. They needed someone to come with a new plan, make the changes needed and move the culture forward rapidly and that is exactly what Davis did. This new CEO had a vision and was in no way afraid to tell everyone about it, bringing many on board right away. Then to assure that others could see his vision, he sent staff out to popular shopping areas and ask them to look around and figure out what was popular about them. He started calling the bank a store and the thought process about the bank began to change all together. Without them even realizing it, he had put together his change team and the ideas that came out were theirs which was even better. He brought in designers to help the change team figure out how best to put together areas that would meet the needs of their customers. They began to see the things that were most important about customer service such as getting people who could not serve the customer out of sight and cross-training everyone else so they could move the customer through quicker. Schein asks first, "Why change" This is exactly the question that Davis put to the staff and then he ask them if changing the outside was good enough. Did the inside not also need to change The second question is "What does the future need to look like" By this time, Umpqua was on a roll. They had a unique name and a unique concept and now they wanted a building design that met all those needs and that is what they got. The building itself was like no other bank building had ever been. It included all kinds of services for customers including use of the internet and financial counseling. All of the things included created a win-win situation for the customers and the bank. Assessing the present state according to Schein (2009) is important so the change team can evaluate where the present state is as compared to where the new state needs to go. This is often one of the most difficult tasks for a change team to manage due to the fact that the present state according to Schein (2009) is often difficult for them to see. They decided that the only way to get what they wanted was to spend their time 100% making the customer happy and they were only doing that 1/2 of the time now. To solve this problem they put together training sessions for all new managers and for anyone inside the business who felt they might want to move up eventually and trained them in what the new culture was, how it worked and how to please the customer 100% of the time. They also sent these people out to other stores that they felt were doing very well and were within the cultural dynamics that they wanted so they could see firsthand how it was supposed to work. They talked about t he "wow factor" and roll played how the customer should be treated and it would feel to them if they were a part of that service. Critical analysis of Integrated Water Resources Management Essay

Critical analysis of Integrated Water Resources Management - Essay Example This inconsistency therefore renders the solutions to water problems dependent on its availability and several other factors including the processes of management, competence and capacities of authorities tasked with the management, prevailing socio-political factors that inform the planning, development and management processes. Other factors include the suitability and implementation status of the prevailing legal frameworks; accessibility of financial resources, regional climatic, social and environmental situations; the extent and availability of exploitable technologies; national, regional and international awareness and attitudes; the levels of education and developmental conditions; governance issues including political meddling, corruption and accountability; and the availability of quality, effective and relevant research aimed at solving the water problems1. The importance of water as a resource can be adequately explained by the widespread interest it is to the general soc iety, and several public institutions that are linked to development issues at the state and local levels, the academic field, private sector and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It is this widespread interest in water that makes its management to command a greater level of social and political attention although the levels may vary from one country or region to another and over time. Globalization has brought about a higher level of interrelation and complexity in the world, a situation that has led to a pervasive interest in issues that ensure good quality of life to the people. Water, though not the only issue takes center stage and in the recent past, there has been a substantial amount of evidence that the water problems faced by a country cannot be singlehandedly solved by the water experts and water ministries. The interconnectivity and the new level of interlink between water problems and other issues related to development demands that water problems, and management a nd development should be multi-faceted with the participation of all stakeholders including users, planners and policy-makers at all levels (INBO and GWP, 2012).2 The prevailing and upcoming predictable trends show that water problems will continuously get more complex and the interlinking with other development sectors such as agriculture, energy, manufacturing, transport and communication and social aspects of life such as education, environmental issues, and health will keep on increasing3. An issue that is of vital importance and creates significant challenge to members of the water profession is the formulation of ways of successfully addressing the current and future water problems at all stages including local, national and international levels. It is with this in mind that during the early 1980s, a number of members of the water profession came to the realization that the overall world water situation was not at a desirable level. Therefore it is imperative that when formula ting a solution, it is appreciated that the water problems are becoming more multi-dimensional, multi-sectoral and multi regional and could therefore only be solved through a multi-criterion decision making

Principles of Banking and Finance Essay Example for Free

Principles of Banking and Finance Essay What does Sub-Prime Crisis means? Sub Prime lending which is also known as near-prime, non-prime and second chance lending, means lending to people who might have trouble repaying the loan due to income ability or credit ratings which previously would not have been available to them. Credit ratings that might be not favorable to them with the standards set up initially by Financial Institutions slowly dwindle to less strict under-writing of loans. which could also due to an influx of foreign capital making lending easier to these group of people, the investment banks that sold the repackage mortgages to the consumers which is one of the way to fund for capital, and the Housing Urban Development of America policy to ensure that its citizens has access to mortgage loans easily. The cheaper interest rate packaged by the Financial Institutions which seems more affordable for the consumer for the first 1 to 5 years and the thereafter interest rate would have jumped significantly. The loans here generally referred to mortgage loans. The Crisis started or snowball into what it was in 2007 in my opinion was due to greed. Greed into thinking that the property boom would continue in perpetuity so that the borrowers could cash out more from their current property market valuation, with this cash out in terms of personal loan they could fund or finance their lifestyle be it buying a new property for investment purposes, to flip or for rental. For the luxury in life they choose to enjoy now, spending future money. As the economy slowed, jobs are being taken away from corporation in America to other countries which have a cheaper source of overhead expenses and manpower. People are being retrenched thus causing them to start defaulting on their loan repayments. A statistic done has shown that the American households do not have any savings but was laden with debt instead. The housing bubble burst, the market does not have that much capital as it used to have to continue to push property prices up anymore, thus causing the market to slow overall, foreclosures of their properties was happening. Consumers was also unable to obtain a refinancing which they had planned previously to lower their interest rate again when it went up, as financial institutions feel the pinched and controlled its lending. How did the Financial Institutions played a part in this? In the past banks have financed their mortgage lending activities through the deposits they receive from their customers. This has confined the amount of mortgage lending they could do. In recent years, banks have designed a new model where they repackage these mortgages to be sold to the bond markets. This has made it a lot easier to fund additional borrowing from the investors and interest rate was low. But it has also led to abuses as banks no longer have the incentive to check carefully the mortgages they issue to the lenders. The failure to check and curb lending in return for the possibility of profit was one of the causes. The first sign of the sub-prime crisis was as early as 2007 when HSBC Finance which is part of the banks north American subsidiary has to write off 880 million in sub-prime lending. The business has become unsustainable as borrowers started to default. The new model which we have come to know is known either as Mortgaged backed Assets or Collateral Debts Obl igations. The repackage mortgages are being sold to the bond markets, before they can be sold, credit rating agency will determine and give the model a rating. A credit rating for an issuer takes into consideration the issuers credit worthiness example its ability to pay back a loan, and affects the interest rate applied to the particular security being issued. These MBS or CDOs as it has come to know are usually marketed to countries which has a surplus in its balance sheet as it was generally known that Asians believe in savings rather than spending future money thus the products were usually marketed in Asia, It is allege that the rating agencies experienced from conflicts of interest, as they were paid by investment banks and other firms that organize and sell these structured securities to investors. If there are not to give favorable ratings to these products they risk the underwriter of these securities to another rating agency. It would be hard to sell these products if they are not being given a rating to begin with. Once they are sold the banks have in a way diverted part of the risk to the consumers. Investors should not rely too heavily on these ratings agencies opinions but instead carry out their own homework in the safeness of debt level as well as others related securities. Probably the opinions of the agencies enable them to get a conclusion, however based on past decade of event, it can only be consider as off base when it comes to the risk of credit event. Investors should try to put themselves in the shoes of the product pushers, asking themselves very important points like, why do you need to sell these products? Do you own any of these products yourself? If it is as good as you mention have the private investors bought and participated a substantial amount of their savings in it? Perhaps there need to be some form of intermediaries whereby no conflict of interest will affect their opinion and report of these products. A case study in Singapore itself which has made headlines during this crisis was the minibond saga which was being sold in Singapore by a couple of Financial Institutions. The originator of this series of structured products was the now defunct Lehman Brothers. The Minibond was being illustrated to the local consumer as a bond which is not the case it is actually a Collateral Debts Obligations. The relationship managers in banks are eager to sell the product because of the high commission and the consumer who are eager to buy because the returns are much higher than the fixed deposit being offered by the banks. An estimated of 500 million Singapore dollars was purchased for the Minibonds by consumers. It stirred a series of conflicts with the Financial Institutions that sold these products, the consumers cried fouled into being mis-sold of it, some of the consumers managed to get back part of their investment and vowed not to touch these structured products ever again. We can take a look back into the 1990s where one of the policy set up and enforce by the Housing and Urban Development of America, was one of the cause of the sub prime crisis. With the support of the government, HUD has less mortgage restriction requirements on its borrowers. The mandate was that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac which was regulated by HUD, was to generate up to 8 million more homeowners in America. It was known as the â€Å"National Homeownership Strategy†. No down payment was required, 100% financing for the property was the norm. This was partly possible due to the influx of cheap money in the market, wit h this cheap money consumers speculated with the market, they kept buying new homes thus the good years of where the appreciation of the property keep going up. Financial Institutions dare to lend due to the market confidence that it can only keep going up, borrowers confidence that the market too can only keep going up. A check with HUD official website, apparently the US government is still supporting home ownership program without first addressing a stable income issue. Only with a stable income can a person make regular commitment to his or her housing loan commitment. Kudos to the Singapore government for taking appropriate actions during the last few years when their economy was recovering, the measures taken to prevent over speculation of the property market in Singapore. Homebuyers with the extra cash were snapping up properties, either for owner’s occupation or for investment purposes. The government either learned from the Sub-prime crisis or foreseen that if it continues the way it is going, a market crash might be imminent or the crash will be too fast and hard, no soft landing for the consumers. As they knew that property market have its up and down. Steps was taken, it used to be 90/10. Whereby the buyer have to come up with 10% cash and the remaining 90% can be financed through a financial institutions regardless of the number of property they currently owned. It was changed to 80/20 rule, 20% of which is the owner’s own cash an 80% through financing. Surprisingly it did not deter the consumers, the market still kept soaring. The next rule implemented was the 80/20 rule for first time buyers, meaning buyers without any current mortgage loan, for buyers with an existing mortgage which was not yet paid up; they are only eligible for 60/40. 60% financing for their new property and an increased in the stamp duty to be paid for to the government if it was their 3rd property for Singaporean. The hardest hit was the foreigners who are seeking to invest their money in Singapore properties as they have to pay additional 10% stamp duty which is likely to deter most of them. P rices still kept going up, the latest ruling was much more complex than the previous few. If one is looking at 80% financing one can only borrow up to the age of 65 years old and tenure of not more than 30 years. Which was not the case previously, in previous scenario it was dependent on different Banks guideline in Singapore, they could lend up to the age of 70, 75 or 80. They stepped in and put a cap at 65 as they believe that is the retirement age. If you want to extend your loan tenure your financing amount will drop to either 60% or 40%. I believe the government did this as they knew that the US is going ahead with Quantitative Easing 3, they want to prevent too much hot money from landing in Singapore shore. To sum up, we learned from our mistakes and grow not to make the same mistake twice. A healthy economy is based on real economic goods with value. Hopefully US can still continue to create innovative products like Apple and keep their manufacturing production in US soil, get employment rate up. The citizens have to maintain their expectations in terms of salary wise and spend within their means. Tighten up their way of lending and controlling Banks to a certain extent, a culture that is profit driven but with ethnics. Can heed the investment guru jim roger’s advice to focus on farming as there will be a food shortage in time to come. Induce good saving habits in everyone to save up for a rainy day. http://www.ethicalquote.com/docs/SubprimeMortgageCrisis.pdf http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7073131.stm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_policies_and_the_subprime_mortgage_crisis http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/09/AR2008060902626.html http://www.thetruthaboutmortgage.com/mortgages-with-no-money-down/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/markets/2816291/HSBC-hit-by-sub-prime-crisis.html

Fathers role in molding his sons adolescence

Fathers role in molding his sons adolescence Over the years so many theories have made it evident that the father is a role model to his children, especially his son during the adolescence years. But none have discussed in what manner he affects, what are the domains in which he is influential and what factors play role to have these effects. Even after being the third in the mother-child dyad, how come the father becomes so important once the child is in his/her puberty, more importantly the son. This paper is an attempt to analysis the findings of the earlier studies done in this domain, to summate their findings and conclude the role of the father in molding his adolescent sons life. According to Freudian psychoanalytical view the father is considered to be a fear instigating factor in a sons life due to which he identifies with him. In a research study based psychoanalytical view of role of father as being the one who castrates shows the importance of identification with him as a gender role model for son for healthy development of sexual orientation later in life (Ceccarelli and Horizonte, 2003). This study explains that the lack/absence of a father who demands respect from the son and lay strong secure base for him to project his oedipal complexes by constantly defining limits, can lead to the construction of the nostalgia of the fathers protection as the transformation of this father into the symbolic father and his projection of his need for a father figure onto his sexual partners and also defining his sexual preference (the cases described in the study were of sons who had homosexual orientation). Therefore a male role model needs to be present for the son to develop sexual preferences which invariantly becomes prominent during the pubertal years, as the boy experiences new bodily changes. According to Zoja (2001) in his book The Father: Historical, Psychological, and Cultural Perspectives with Jungian analytical view, points that a single mother can assume the role of a father in preadolescent years of the child because the woman has been able to reconcile her role of mother with her role of lover, but later due to change in group dynamics and development of concept of gender-identity in adolescent years, need for an actual male father figure arises, for these adolescents form gangs which have a crude and regressive masculine psychology and its unconscious function is to challenge the father just as the gangs of animals are placed in masculine hierarchy. Sipsma, Biello, Cole-Lewis and Kershaw (2010) show that sons of adolescent fathers were 1.8 times more likely to become adolescent fathers than were sons of older fathers, as they l acked proper father figure in their life as their father themselves have not been mature enough to provide them with the strong security which is associated with a father. Adolescent boys with their father-present have higher male sex- role preferences than father-absent boys, though both father-present and father absent adolescent boys imitate male sex-role and female sex-roles which is not in correlation to their sex-role preferences. Moreover the masculine preferences are well established by age seven, more in father-present boys than in father-absent ones (Bandaines, 1976), showing clearly the role model that a father assumes quite early in his sons life. According to findings of Almeida and Galambos (1991), fathers acceptance of adolescent son increases with time, and as they get more involved in each other life, a better understanding may develop helping the adolescent child to deal with his conflicts. Moreover in single-earner families fathers tend to spend more time with the ir sons than their daughter which may be it being easy to identify with the same sex both ways. Thus it is clear that the presence of fathers who involve in their adolescent sons can lead to better feeling of acceptance in the child. Jones, Kramer, Armitage and Williams (2003) showed that the perceived quality of father-son (and mother-son) relation was negatively correlated with psychological separation: better the perceived quality, the less psychologically separated they were. Adolescent boys with non-resident fathers who had more frequent contact with their fathers experienced less psychological separation and more of overall healthy separateness. studies show that males who experience separation from their fathers early in life (before age 5yrs), even though they developed unhindered masculine preferences, experience high rate of low self-esteem and self-confidence, while those who are separated from their fathers later in life due to divorce of parents are less likely to marry and more likely to have common-law relationships (Covell and Turnbull, 1982). Robertson (1999) in his study found out that, variation in family structure, lack sense of attachment to family or parents, lack of shared leisure experiences with adolescent sons beyond age 10yr, and lack of interest in the adolescent sons live, especially by fathers lead to increased rated of delinquency in these boys. In a study done on African-American adolescent males involved in delinquent activities showed that, there was a detrimental effect of low socioeconomic-status on the delinquent activities of father-absent pubertal boys than those living in dual-parent families. Moreover the study showed that the parental monitoring done by the fathers was inversely correlated to the delinquent acts of the adolescent as these adolescent males benefited from being in a dual-parent family where they received paternal supervision besides maternal control (Paschall et al. 2003). With emergence of adolescence, drugs-use becomes a major concern and the experimenting youth become easy prey to such addiction. In such times the father can be a major influential factor in his sons life, who can either make him more prone to adapt to the habit or easy for him to stay away from such indulgence. Brook et. al.(1983) findings show that affectionate, emotionally supportive, attentive, involved in their sons life and engaging in meaningful conversation fathers have sons who dont smoke. Moreover fathers of nonsmokers have higher expectations from their sons and help to cultivate their ideas therefore may be encouraging their need for independence, which foster in their sons a sense of competence and achievement. On the other hand adolescent boys who smoked were unable to identify with their fathers beliefs and values and more identified with the stereotypical macho-masculine roles and that helped them to compensate for the poor paternal masculine role, which tend to spend less quality as well as quantity of time with their sons, and most of them smoke themselves. Apart from these the smokers differed from the nonsmoker adolescent boys on many personality traits; they tend to be less frustration tolerant, less compliant to family situations, less responsible and more rebellious and impulsive. The smoking behavior helps them to compensate for the feeling of low self-esteem, which develops due to a poor paternal role model. In another study Brook et. al (1981) found that adolescent marijuana users are less likely to perceive their fathers as less affectionate and child-centered, and they lack paternal control. Another domain in which fathers make a big contribution to adolescent sons is the area of subjective well-being and values-judgments. James R. Barclay (1980) in his study defines the role of a father in his adolescent sons development of values as that of, the masculine role model, the communicator (listening to different views and offering problem-solving methodologies), the moral model (striving to live somewhere between the absolutist and complete relativist) and the fallible reinforcing agent. Further studies show that fathers support is positively related to the psychological well-being of adolescent boys, especially those who are constantly bullied at school or by their peer group. (Flouri and Buchanan, 2002). In men positive parenting(by both or either parents) influenced psychological functioning by lowering psychological maladjustment in adolescence and increasing the odds of being partnered in midadulthood, it protected against psychological distress by promoting educationa l attainment and physical health in adolescence and young adulthood, and by increasing the odds of being religious and partnered in midadulthood, and it predicted life satisfaction by lowering psychological maladjustment in adolescence. (Flouri, 2003) Thus the involvement of father in a childs adolescent years, especially the son is more important so as to provide him with better gender role; help in developing better self-esteem and confidence, overall feeling of subjective-wellbeing and trust in long term commitments; and thus keeping a check on childs maladaptive behaviors such as that of engaging in early sexual relations, committing delinquency and abusing substances. Comparative Essay The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Essay

Any movie based upon a piece of literature can make or break its source of inspiration. Some movies do no mercy toward the book, while some exceed the quality of the novel. The movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, directed by Norman Mc Lean, was a much better piece of work than the short story, â€Å"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,† written by James Thuber, because the video had a satisfying conclusion, more action, and a much more developed and advanced plot. The conclusion of the story left you unsatisfied and discontent because it didn’t really tell you what happens to the protagonist; it just ends, while the movie ends with Walter, the protagonist, finding love. Walter also overcomes his low self-esteem towards his boss and says, â€Å"The smartest thing you ever did was hire me!† He goes further in saying that all his boss does is make money of his ideas. The confidence Walter shows at the end of the movie gets him to a higher a position at work. In addition, the movie also leaves you feeling satisfied because the bad guys, the antagonists, are caught and put in prison. Therefore the movie had a more rewarding conclusion than the short story’s inconclusive ending. The movie had much more action, partly because it was more developed, interesting and exciting. The plot involved more than just Walter going to the store to pick up some items for his wife, as in the story. The movie included bad guys chasing Walter throughout the movie because he accidentally took possession of a precious notebook. In addition, it also incorporated Walter committing death-defying feats such as falling out of, and climbing through sky-high building windows, and tiptoeing along the edge of these buildings. Action was also added through the extra daydreams Walter  experienced during the movie, such as the shoot-out near the end of the movie and the Mississippi gambler. Moreover, action was added with Walter running from the bad guys while setting up various booby traps, consequently getting caught in them himself. This caused skepticism in the audience’s faith of Walter’s defeat of the bad guys, but in the end Walter pulled through. As a result of thes e qualities in the movie, action was added, while the short story was dry and exclusive of action. A well-developed plot must have some sort of love interest, action, and a climax, and humor can help. The story did not include these fundamentals. On the other hand, the movie stuck Walter in a very awkward position, which advanced the plot tremendously. Walter’s mother chose Walter’s fiancà ©, whom he did not have feelings for. Then he met Virginia Mayo, the woman of his dreams, with whom he fell in love and ended up marring by the end of the movie. The short story didn’t have a plot; it was just a series of thoughts and daydreams with no climax, conclusion or real development of setting. There was nothing to the book; it just explained a day in the life of Walter Mitty, compared to the movie which involved Walter overcoming chases through windows and through warehouses, his nasty boss, and his over protective, bossy mother. The movie also had a lot of humor in Walter’s clumsy attics, such as when he was running from the bad guy and knocked over the water dispenser, when he broke the window after slamming it behind him, and when he fell through the window in the office during the business meeting. Another example would be when he set up the booby traps for the bad guys and then ended up setting them off himself! With all of these modifications to the short story, the movie’s plot was much more enhanced and developed. The movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, was a more enhanced composition than the story because the movie had a much more fulfilling conclusion, more action and a more complex and advanced plot. The quality of the movie, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, far exceeded that of the short story upon which it was based.

Economic And Essential Attitudes To The Trinity Religion Essays

Economic And Essential Attitudes To The Trinity Religion Essays Economic And Essential Attitudes To The Trinity Religion Essay Economic And Essential Attitudes To The Trinity Religion Essay This paper discusses points made by different theologists and besides discusses the three within the Godhead. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are all indwelling of each other. All three are learned from a spiritual point of view to be one and one merely. Besides discuss are the economic and indispensable Trinity of the Godhead. The Three Persons of the Three The Three in Christianity is a spiritual credo technologically advanced to edify the connexion of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost defined in the Bible. The existent question of beliefs is: There is assurance and knowing that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost is God, so how can at that place be merely one God if there are three in one. The guideline, wining the interlingual rendition and the undermentioned mandate of his creative activity in the Church, sustains that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost remain non the same with one another nor isolated after one another but simply three different persons of one organic structure. It might be comparatively demanding to understand it by motor, but it has later been soon viewed as a important guideline and test of the spiritual religion ( Trinity, 2005 ) God is three individuals however He is simply one reverent being. It is debated that since God is revealed in Jesus Christ is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, now the explication of Christian philosophy must be with the three individuals of the Divine Trinity and merely so can the godly integrity is explored. Pannenberg, wanted to corroborate how the tri-unity of God have to edify all logical philosophy ( Grenz, 2004 ) . Harmonizing to Grenz ( 2004 ) the primary motive in the manner of whatever developed in the churchaa‚Â ¬a„?s instruction that centered about God as three, produced by the spiritual perplexed modeled by agencies of the primary churchaa‚Â ¬a„?s recognition of the Lordship of Jesus and the apprehension of the abide within the Holy Ghost, in cooperation of which growings arose inside the model of the unchanging promise to the one God of the Old Testament that the primary adherents inherited from Israel. This journey carried about three characteristics together ascended to a certain grade finally, antecedently on the heels of two critical spiritual picks fabricated in the ordeal of the Arian statement. Economic and indispensable attitudes to the Three Harmonizing to McGrath ( 2007 ) Irenaeus claimed that the diverse yet connected functions of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost inside the frugalness of salvation. He admitted his religion in God the Father non yet in being who is uncontrolled, unobserved, one God, shaper of the universe ; we received this as the first order of religion. The Word of God, the Son, and Jesus Christ who, in the completeness of interval, in demand towards garnering wholly everything toward Himself, Jesus appeared as a human being amongst the universe, able to be seemed and felted, to make away with decease, bring ageless life, and reestablish family by manner of the brethren and God. The Holy Ghost who, is in the completeness of clip, remained moved out in a different mode of societal environment in demand to regenerate humanity throughout the full universe in the sight of God. This way conveys out doubtless the indicant of an economic Three aa‚Â ¬ viz. , a consideration of the natural milieus of the Godhead in which every individual is accountable for a portion of the frugalness of salvation. Far off from being a ineffectual part of theological premise, the guideline of the Trinity is grounded openly in the composite human apprehension of redemption in Christ, and is discerning by agencies of the account of the cognition ( McGrath, 2007 P 246 ) . McGrath ( 2007 ) province The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are non three different and dividing components of the Godhead, like three major components of a planetary organisation. Reasonably, they are distinctions within the Godhead, which turn out to be unmistakable inside the household of salvation and the societal apprehension of redemption and grace. The guideline of the Trinity supports that, underneath the outward of the complications of the history of salvation and our cognition of God, lays merely one God. Harmonizing to Karl Rahner made some of the most refined statements of the Trinity. His treatment of the philosophy of the Trinity is one of the most interesting facets of his idea. Rahner One of the indispensable constructions of Rahneraa‚Â ¬a„?s statement had to make with the relationship of the economic and indispensable Trinities. However, these do non establish two different Lords: comparatively, they are two different demeanours of potentially the indistinguishable Godhead. The indispensable Three can be observed as an attempt to joint the Godhead outside the encouraging fortunes of clip and infinite ; the economic Three is the usage in which the Three is wholly known inside the economic system of salvation, which is a give or take in the modern patterned advance itself. Rahner lays down the subsequent theoretical elementary of the economic Three is the indispensable Trinity, and frailty versa. ( McGrath, 2007, p 253 ) . Decision The Three of the Godhead is one indwelling. God sent His Son Jesus to come and salvage us from wickedness. Jesus took on the monetary value of paying all of our debts and after making so when He was finished He sent us a Holy Comforter in the Holy Spirit. So hence God is Father, Son and Spirit. Many do non understand the 3 and therefore they can non be explained to many. When we become a portion of the Trinity there is no other feeling that feels every bit good as being in the household of three but one.

Free Essays on Aristotle

, substances are distinct and are composed of different common qualities. However, form is what determines the substance’s essence. Derived from these terms, Aristotle also introduced his theory of cause and effect, which if relevant to his theory of potentiality and actuality. He taught that an organism changes form until it reaches a state of actuality. The form is known from the beginning and this beginning state has potentiality. In addition, form strives to become it’s own reality or actualize it’s potentiality and the only way this can be done is by motion through the forms. The cause for things can only be described when actuality is reached. The ideas of actuality and potentiality bring to the light the notion of the Unmoved Mover, or God. This was a supreme form, which possessed actuality and hence, was without motion. Furthermore, the Unmoved Mover is immaterial because matter is in a state of potentiality and the Unmoved Mover only contains actuality. The Unmoved Mover is important to Aristotle’s theories because it is a logical explanation for the cause of the universe; it is the universal form.... Free Essays on Aristotle Free Essays on Aristotle Aristotle places great emphasis on the moral virtue of temperance in relation to the nature of states of character. In his examination to achieve true temperance Aristotle asserts, â€Å"The general account being of this nature, the account of particular cases is yet more lacking in exactness; for they don not follow under any art or precept, but the agents themselves must in each case consider what is appropriate to the occasion† (-1104a9). He believes that we achieve our own good will, but attaining the good isn’t an exact science, it isn’t precise like math or physics. However, he still attempts to arrive to a definition of true temperance. In defining true temperance Aristotle speaks about human function. He says the enjoyment of pleasure is reasonable and the abstention of pleasure as unreasonable. He says true virtue lies between Self-indulgence and abstention. Therefore, temperance represents the mean lying between excess and abstention. He doesn’t concern himself with a uniform rule, but with something all humans have in common allowing us to act accordingly. In book two of the ethics Aristotle concerns himself with three objects of choice: the noble, the useful, and the pleasant, as well as three objects of avoidance: the base, the harmful, and the painful. These objects motivate one to act or avoid any action. Most people avoid the painful and choose the pleasure, which Aristotle believes is in accordance with virtue. However, continuing to choose pleasure over pain leads to self-indulgence. Therefore, how must one attain the mean? Aristotle declares, â€Å"[to achieve virtue and temperance] that the intermediate state in all things is to be praised, but that we must incline sometimes toward the excess, sometimes toward the deficiency; for so shall we most easily hit the mean and what is right† (1109b28). I agree with Aristotle’s statement affirming that in order to reach the mean, humans must at times pu... Free Essays on Aristotle Aristotle’s ideas were derived from Plato’s view of the world and it’s relation to absolute Forms. In contrast to Plato’s beliefs, Aristotle felt that the basis of true reality can be determined by what exists in the physical world, not by an incomprehensive world of Ideas. To explain his theory, Aristotle constructed different categories to explain existence. He taught that each object in the physical world consists of a substance, which is it’s main reality and without substance an object can not exist. Furthermore, quality is solely an ingredient of each individual substance. In other words, substances are distinct and are composed of different common qualities. However, form is what determines the substance’s essence. Derived from these terms, Aristotle also introduced his theory of cause and effect, which if relevant to his theory of potentiality and actuality. Free Essays on Aristotle How does Aristotle’s list of virtues and vices differ from our modern conceptions of vice and virtue? Aristotle’s claim that virtue can be learned only through constant practice implies that there are no set rules we can learn and then obey. Instead, virtue consists of learning through experience what is the mean path, relative to ourselves, between the vices we may be liable to stumble into. For Aristotle, virtue is an all-or-nothing affair. We cannot pick and choose our virtues: we cannot decide that we will be courageous and temperate but choose not to be magnificent. Nor can we call people properly virtuous if they fail to exhibit all of the virtues. Though Aristotle lists a number of virtues, he sees them all as coming from the same source. A virtuous person is someone who is naturally disposed to exhibit all the virtues, and a naturally virtuous disposition exhibits all the virtues equally. Our word ethics descends from the Greek word ethos, which means more properly â€Å"character.† Aristotle’s concern in the Ethics, then, is what constitutes a good character. All the virtues spring from a unified character, so no good person can exhibit some virtues without exhibiting them all. One of the most famous aspects of the Ethics is Aristotle’s doctrine that virtue exists as a mean state between the vicious extremes of excess and deficiency. For example, the virtuous mean of courage stands between the vices of rashness and cowardice, which represent excess and deficiency respectively. So virtue is a purposive disposition, lying in a mean that is relative to us and determined by a rational principle, by that which a prudent man would use to determine it. This quotation from Book II, Chapter 6, gives us a clear expression of Aristotle’s Doctrine of the Mean: virtue is a mean disposition between the vicious extremes of excess and deficiency. In calling virtue a â€Å"purposive† disposition, Aristotle means that... Free Essays on Aristotle With the possible exception of Plato, Aristotle is the most influential philosopher in the history of logical thought. Logic into this century was basically Aristotelian logic. Aristotle dominated the study of the natural sciences until modern times. Aristotle, in some aspect, was the founder of biology; Charles Darwin considered him as the most important contributor to the subject. Aristotle’s Poetic, the first work of literary notice, had a string influence on the theory and practice of modern drama. Aristotle’s great influence is due to the fact that he seemed to offer a system, which although lacked in certain respects, was as a whole matchless in its extent. Aristotle was born in 384 BC in Stagira in northern Greece. His father, Nicomachus, was a physician with close connections to the Macedonian court. In 367, Aristotle went to Athens to join Plato’s Academy, first as a student then, a teacher. Plato had gathered around him a group of outstanding men who shared no common belief but who were united by the exact effort to organize human knowledge on a firm theoretical basis and expand it in all directions. This effort identified Aristotle’s own work. It was also part of the Academy’s program to train young men for a political career and to provide advice to rulers. After Plato’s death, Aristotle joined the court of Hermias of Atarneus in 347, and later went to the court of Philip II of Macedonian, where he became the tutor of Alexander the Great. In 335, Aristotle returned to Athens to found his own school, the Lyceum. The Lyceum under Aristotle pursued a wider range of subjects than the Academy ever had. The detail study of nature became very popular among the students. After the death of Alexander the Great in 323, anti-Macedonian feeling in Athens rose, and Aristotle retried to Chalcis, where he died the following year. The natural sciences are concerned with natural objects that are characterized by the... Free Essays on Aristotle Aristotle was a philosopher who lived from 384 B.C. to 322 B.C. He spent twenty years studying and working at Plato’s Academy. Plato was an influential philosopher and scholar that made a tremendous impact on Aristotle. Many of Plato’s ideologies were presented in Aristotle’s works. Aristotle demonstrated his political views in The Politics and The Nicomachean Ethics. Aristotle stated, â€Å"Every state is a community of some kind, and every community is established with a view to some good, but if all communities aim at some good, the state or political community, which is the highest of all, and which embraces all the rest, aims at good in a greater degree than any other.† Aristotle discussed the distinction between democracy and oligarchy, and which government he desired the most. He also explored the duties and obligations of citizens to their government and vice versa. Aristotle discussed the notions of â€Å"just† and â€Å"unjust† and how laws affected them. According to Aristotle, there were three true forms of government: monarchy, aristocracy, and constitutional republic. The perverted forms of these were tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy. The difference between the last two was not that democracy was a government of the many, and oligarchy of the few; instead, democracy was the state of the poor, and oligarchy of the rich. Aristotle preferred a monarchy, but believed that democracy was the best type of government. He favored democracy because it appeared to be safer and less susceptible to revolution. He also favored democracy because it secured the predominance of a large middle class, which was the chief basis of permanence in any state. Democracy brought society together by making people active in their government. A government was nothing without their citizens, and citizens were nothing without their government. Therefore, there were duties and obligations due to the state from it citizens, and there were ...

Arthropods PowerPoint Presentation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Arthropods - PowerPoint Presentation Example Among the arthropods, insects portray the highest degree of species diversity (Lecointre & Guyanden 67). In this discussion, we will focus on the reasons why insects are the most diverse. This paper will also focus on the limitations of these diverse species. Elipura is made up of collembola and Protura. The diplura is closely related to the insecta class. However, research indicates that crustaceans closely resemble insects than the entognatha class. Further research indicates that the collembolla have a different origin from the insects. The first evidence of Hexapods dates back to the Devonian period (Approximately 390 years ago). During this time, the insects are said to have been wingless. However, the preservation of the fossils was poor due to their exoskeleton, which is made of chitin. The evolution of the wings was an adaptation to allow them to survive the harsh conditions of the terrain. Insect fossils believed to have been from the Devonian period have been described. The oldest is a precursor of Rhyniella Praecusor found in Scotland. Primitive rooted plants of the time were localised in moist areas, and hence created soil for early arthropods such as myriapods (Grimaldi & Engel 66). Today, majority of the insects are terrestrial with a few in the marine habitat. The figures described in the previous slide are only representative of the species that have been documented. Forecasting shows that there could be many more species of insects living in non accessible areas that have not been scientifically described. To be recognized, insect species have to be described scientifically. This involves publishing of their description in the specialist journals. This is followed by thorough research. The purpose of this is to describe the insect, as well as classify it depending on it features. New species are recognised after formal descriptions. In Borneo, for the decade 1994-2004, 361 new species were found. 260

1.Appreciate important issues in computer system design such as speed Essay

1.Appreciate important issues in computer system design such as speed and flexibility and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the organisational principles of current computer systems - Essay Example In the mid 1970’s when the personal computer was not as common as the current times, computing attacks were done on the telephone systems for example John Draper hacked the AT&T system to make free long distance calls. Randy (2009) pointed out that he achieved to get through the respective system by a simple whistle which he got in a cereal box. Later, he came to be known as Captain Krunch. Different types of attacks have been witnessed over the years and have gotten more sophisticated with the advent of new technology. By the end of 1970s, personal computers became comparatively more accessible than earlier. This marked the start of spam emails; first spam email was sent in 1978 on ARPAnet by the CEO of Digital Equipment Corporation to disable a new computer. The spam in those times generally consisted of advertisements or promotions unlike the financial gain objectives that are hidden in them now. The current motives behind spam deal with far more severe aspects for e.g. identity frauds, online scams. Personal email addresses databases are maintained by many companies these days. Spam is sent to these recipients without their consent or permission with the alias of different forms to make them look professional. These kinds of spam emails transformed into phishing by the year 1996 and consisted of content like the announcement of winning of a lottery by the recipient or an official letter from his respective bank to update his personal details. The recipient enters his personal information in res ponse, thinking that it is a genuine banking process. The email scammer gains the recipient’s personal information as well as banking information that can be used in any desired malicious activity. The stealing of personal information has led to the most appalling of the cyber crimes which is â€Å"identity theft†. According to the statistics provided by the Javelin Strategy & Research Center

It is important to know right from wrong Essay Example for Free

It is important to know right from wrong Essay During this essay I am going to try to prove that it is important to know right form wrong. I am also going to explain how different cultures; backgrounds and circumstances can change peoples morals on right and wrong. An example of how people morals can changes due to circumstances is war. How is war different to murder? War can be defending the country you live in from being invaded and taken over. If your countries soldiers dont shoot the invading soldiers then you would either be dead or living somewhere everything about you is considered wrong just because of you nationality. However, war can be attack where your country is the one who is invading another. But either way, does the little man have a choice? The little man has to do what his leader tells him to avoid being named a traitor or being killed by the enemy. In my opinion war isnt murder. If both sides have weapons and neither side has a choice because if they dont shoot first then theyll end up dead. Its a no win situation. However, a person who commits murder can have a choice. Murders can happen due to jealous or revenge or even pure hate of the person. But the murderer has a choice or whether or not to take someone elses life. There is an exception in my opinion of somebody who is beaten up or constantly being injured by his or her spouse. Im not saying women who get beaten up or men who do because it can happen both ways. There is a point in some people where they snap and cant take any more and their hidden anger get released and they can murder someone in a moment of losing control. This does bring up the question Is suicide murder? and one which I cant answer myself for many reasons and therefore Im unable to give my opinion on it. Some people may consider self harm to be a sickness and that even thinking about suicide is murdering yourself. If the life is yours to take who decides if you take it or not? Other people, maybe those who have considered it themselves believe it can be a way of escaping a situation rather than fighting through it and even that considering it is just bringing them to a conclusion that nobody else has reached yet. Is murder right or wrong? Murder is wrong in circumstances and can be right in others, the same for suicide. It all depends on the point of view that somebody looks at it from. There are always going to be exceptions in murder and suicide so nobody can give a clear right or wrong answer. Another example of right and wrong is the black and white version. The law is in black and white and doesnt consider exceptions in many cases. The legal age of understanding the difference between right and wrong is ten years old in the United Kingdom. No child under the age of ten can be prosecuted and even those who are older are very rarely prosecuted as the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) doesnt always agree to go ahead with the cases. Some cases do go through such as the case when Robert Thompson and Jon Venables murdered James Bulger. The CPS did agree with prosecuting them as they had taken a life and the chance of getting a conviction was realistic. The law has to be in black and white to ensure they treat everybody equally To know the difference between right and wrong you have to have substantial judgement to know when something you are doing is wrong. Growing up living in a location where burglary and violence are everyday occurrences can tilt the persons point of view on right and wrong. Circumstances can change the way their view is on different situations and the basic common sense that people have can cause the person to have different outlooks on different situations. This can cause their view of right and wrong to lead them to things they wouldnt do other wise and end up in prison for committing a crime that they didnt even know is wrong. Is it possible to unknowingly do something wrong? I believe that it is possible to do something wrong without realising it is wrong. It depends on common sense and the situation. In my opinion it is important to know the difference between right and wrong. If you dont then you can do things unknowingly that are wrong and kill somebody due to not understanding the consequences of your actions. This makes it important to know the difference and be able to judge a situation on whether its right or wrong yourself. Ethics and morals are part of everybodys opinions on whether something is right or wrong that means that your opinion has more influence on your actions and the way you treat other people than you realise. The problem with just saying it is wrong to murder or war is murder is that things arent that simple. The world isnt in black and white like the law, it is in colour and so many things and situations have an exception, which is why people have to understand the difference between right and wrong so they can be able to judge the world for themselves.
